Psychiatric/Mental Health Program
Psychiatric nursing provides psychiatric and mental health nursing assessment, plan of care and services to adults and their significant others as well as community groups. It promotes positive mental health and prevents progression of complications of mental illness and supports individuals with mental illness to maintain their independence and maximize their potential in the community.

Additional programs:

  • We provide all medical nursing care to individuals receiving psychiatric nursing service. We work in cooperation with social work services to provide links to a wide range of community support services.

Types of clients who require Psychiatric Nursing Care:

  • Individuals under a physician’s care with a new psychiatric diagnosis
  • Those who have exacerbation of existing psychiatric illness
  • Clients on new psychiatric medications
  • Those with suicidal thoughts or attempts
  • Those with a lag between discharge from hospital and follow-up with the mental health system

Outcomes and Benefits after receiving Psychiatric Nursing Care:

  • Prevention of re-hospitalization
  • Medication compliance, effectiveness, actions and side effects
  • Appropriate follow-up with physicians
  • Ability to manage mental health care independently
  • Individuals are educated on mental health illness, ability to identify exacerbation of illness, and linked to community mental health services when needed.

Experience or qualifications of our psychiatric nursing staff:

  • Nurses accredited in Psychiatric Nursing by the American Nurses Credentialing Center
  • In-house in-services available to all professional nursing staff plus specific continuing education is obtained through psychiatric nursing conferences and approved home study courses
